adesso, a Dortmund-based company that provides software and technology solutions for the insurance industry, has acquired Berlin-based startup omni, which specialises in AI-powered claims processing.

The acquisition brings together adesso’s insurance and software expertise with omni’ AI technology. adesso plans to gradually integrate omni’ technology into its main insurance platform, the in|sure Ecosphere. The company will also continue developing and expanding omni’ solutions as an important part of its insurance AI portfolio.

“Artificial intelligence does not become part of the insurance core simply by adding another application alongside existing systems. It has to be connected to the systems, data and control mechanisms insurers use to run their business. With omni:us, we are gaining proven, production-grade AI for claims together with the specialised expertise required to embed intelligence directly into the core insurance landscape,” said Andreas Nolte, Managing Director Insurance Business Solutions at adesso.

Founded in Dortmund in 1997, adesso is one of the leading IT service providers in the German-speaking market. It is also a major provider of core insurance software. Its in|sure Ecosphere is a cloud-based platform that supports key insurance processes across property and casualty, health and life insurance, as well as retirement and pension services.

In 2024, adesso generated €1.3 billion in revenue and had more than 11,100 employees across over 65 locations.

Founded in 2015, omni provides AI-powered solutions that automate insurance claims from start to finish. Its technology can handle standard claims automatically and also provides an AI co-pilot to help manage more complex cases.

The company’s technology analyses claims data, applies insurance rules and produces traceable results that can work with insurers’ existing systems. In 2018, omni announced a €22.5 million Series A funding round led by Target Global.

Through the acquisition, adesso strengthens its insurance business with AI technology, experienced employees, industry expertise and international customer relationships. At the same time, omni gains access to adesso’s strong market presence and expertise in insurance, integration, implementation and business growth.

The omni team will continue to play an important role in developing and selling the combined insurance AI solutions. Its products, expertise and customer relationships will remain within the adesso Group under the omni brand.

Existing omni customers will continue using their current products and technology. Their solutions will also be further developed, while customers will gain access to adesso’s wider insurance and technology capabilities.

Adesso’s existing customers will also benefit from omni’ AI-powered claims processing technology. These solutions will gradually be added to adesso’s existing insurance software and transformation portfolio.

The acquisition will increase the amount of proprietary software in adesso’s insurance business and allow the company to offer more AI-powered solutions. For omni, the deal provides greater market reach, insurance expertise and stronger capabilities for implementing and scaling its technology.

“Claims is where artificial intelligence has to prove that it can perform reliably under real financial, regulatory and operational conditions. “We have spent ten years building that capability. Together with adesso, we can make it accessible to a significantly broader insurance market, integrate it more deeply into core systems and extend the same rigorous approach to further insurance processes,” said Thomas Hauschild, CEO of omni:us.

According to both companies, their combined product strategy focuses on two main market needs. First, specialised AI tools will be built directly into insurance products and workflows, giving insurers ready-to-use solutions. Second, customers will be able to create, integrate and manage their own AI agents or third-party AI agents within a secure and controlled system.

The companies also said that the new product strategy will meet the strict requirements of the insurance industry. This includes clear and explainable AI decisions, human supervision, reliable operations, data protection, strong information security and complete tracking of processes.
